Currently the car is all show and no go, but
I have big plans for this car. In the near
future, I plan to give her a much needed paint
job, shave the hatch, and add some fender
flares. Suspension wise, I'd like to add some
front and rear sway bars, and eventually
switch to coilovers. I'd also like to change
the front and rear axles/brakes to those from
a VR6 to prepare for an eventual VR6
transplant. Finally, the beater rims that are
currently on the car have to go...right now
I'm leaning toward some BBS RGRs. I also am
looking for a leather interior. Most of these
plans will be on hold for awhile though, as
I'll be leaving for Med school next fall.

I bought this car in December 1999. The
previous owner had leased it for two years,
and unfortunately decided to keep the
snowboard and snowboard rack. I felt an
immediate connection to this car, since it was
not only my first VW, but also my first car. I
learned to drive stick on this car, and the
car's original pick-up date was on my
birthday. I guess it was fate...in any
respect, the car turned out to be a bit of a
black cat, and anything that could happen did.
In the five years I have owned my "deviant
K2", I have had a stone barn blow over on us,
a curb jump out at us in the snow, bent three
rims, and slashed out numerous tires (some
thanks to a truck tailgate in the middle of
the highway during rush hour), and countless
other fun mishaps. But through everything, the
car has been really fun to drive and to this
day is my daily driver with over 105,000 miles
on the clock. Just this summer, she took me 80
miles to work (each way) and still managed to
finish first at Waterfest while her second
place competition had only 24,000 miles on the
clock. This car has a permanent home with me
and will never be sold. Special thanks go out
to my personal mechanic, bodywork and paint
guy, and the love of my life Aaron Hertzog.
Without him, this car would look like crap. I
also want to thank Deviant Designs, for all
custom work done to the car, and Mike Grim's
Truck Wreck Specialists for letting us use
paint booths, pressure washers, and equipment.
Finally....thanks to everyone from TPR for all
advice, encouragement, criticism, and smart
ass remarks! |
