VOLKSWAGEN CANADA
AUGUST SALES RESULTS
Ajax, Ontario –
Volkswagen Canada announced that it sold 3,605 new
vehicles in August despite shortages of its
top-selling models. August deliveries were slightly
down by 5% versus the same time period last year,
while the overall Canadian light passenger vehicle
market declined by 7.9%. This decrease was not
unexpected as Volkswagen has been actively building
down inventories of its popular 5th generation
Rabbit, GTI, and Jetta Wagon models in anticipation
of the introduction of the sixth generation new Golf
Family (new Golf, new Golf GTI, and all new Golf
Wagon) this fall.
Volkswagen’s share of the overall market was 2.7%
during the month and increased by 10 points versus
August 2008 (2.6%).
Volkswagen’s TDI Clean Diesel models continued to
play a large role in its overall sales for the
month, comprising almost 21% of Volkswagen’s total
vehicle sales.
For the period January to August of this year,
Volkswagen has delivered 26,611 new vehicles in
Canada, and has gained 30 points of market share in
Canada for a total of 2,7% year-to-date.
Volkswagen sales by model line for the month of
August 2009 were:
