VOLKSWAGEN CANADA DECEMBER 2009 SALES RESULTS

 

Ajax, Ontario – Volkswagen Canada announced that it increased its sales in 2009 versus 2008 as it sold 40,059 (2008: 40,026) new vehicles. With the announcement that the Canadian light vehicle market was down 10.7% overall during the past year, Volkswagen increased its share of the overall market to 2.7%, an increase of 30 points versus its performance in 2008 (2.4%).

Despite a challenging and often difficult auto market in 2009, the largest volume European automotive nameplate in Canada credited its sales success with the introduction of its new 2010 Golf Family models, including the new Golf, new Golf Wagon, and new Golf GTI, as well as increased availability of TDI Clean Diesel in 4 models: Touareg, Jetta, Golf, and Golf Wagon. Models featuring the fuel-efficient and affordable TDI Clean Diesel engine represented almost 26% of all Volkswagen new vehicle sales during the past year.
