VOLKSWAGEN CANADA
JANUARY 2010 SALES RESULTS
AJAX, ON – Volkswagen Canada announced that it
increased its sales by 23.2% during the month of
January versus the same time period last year for a
total of 2,332 new vehicles (2009: 1,893). This
solid start to the New Year was combined with growth
in the Volkswagen Brand’s share of the total
Canadian light vehicle market to 2,86% (2009: 2.46%)
as industry figures showed an increase of 6,2%
against January 2009.
Volkswagen credited higher sales of its recently
introduced new Golf Family, including 2 of the 3
finalists for the Automobile Journalists Association
of Canada’s 2010 Canadian Car of the Year, the Golf
Wagon TDI Clean Diesel and the Golf GTI. The Touareg
TDI Clean Diesel, AJAC finalist for 2010 Canadian
Utility Vehicle of the Year, contributed to a 164.0
% increase in overall Touareg sales vs. January
2009. Both the 2010 Canadian Car and Canadian
Utility Vehicle of the Year awards will be announced
on February 11 at the upcoming Canadian
International Auto Show in Toronto.
Other models enjoyed sales rises during the month,
including Tiguan (+27.1%) and Jetta Sedan (+12.9%).
TDI Clean Diesel sales represented 30.8% of total
Volkswagen deliveries in January.
