AJAX, ON – June 1,
2010 – For the fifth month in a row, Volkswagen
Canada announced that its new vehicle sales exceeded
those of the same time period in 2009, with 4,587
units delivered in May (2009: 4,209) and posting
another increase, this time by 9.0%.
Leading the sales charge in May were new models such
the new Golf with a 114% increase, and the new Golf
GTI up by 69.6%. A number of other Volkswagen models
contributed to May’s sales percentage increase,
including the Jetta Sedan (+42.8%), Tiguan (+13.6%),
Passat (+123%), and Touareg (+41.0%).
In light of the overall industry increasing slightly
by 0.2% during the month versus May 2009 based on
preliminary sales figures released today, Volkswagen
credited its annual “Autobahn for All” integrated
sales and marketing campaign for maintaining the
strong sales momentum already started in January and
for helping it to increase its overall share of the
total Canadian light vehicle market to 2.97% for the
month (2009: 2.73%). “Autobahn for All” continues
through the month of June.
TDI Clean Diesel sales represented 26% of all
Volkswagen deliveries in May 2010. Year-to-date,
Volkswagen sales in Canada are up 27.2% in the first
five months of 2010, resulting in a market share
during this period of 2.92% (2009: 2.48%).
