FRONT STRUT REPLACEMENT. |
STEP 1. |
A little D.I.Y. for front strut replacement.
Will also work as spring install.
The tools:
- Floor jack
- 17mm lug wrench
- Spring compressor tools
- 19mm socket
- Strut top nut removal tool
- 7mm Allen key socket
- Adjustable wrench
- 13/16 spark plug socket

Jack up car. |

STEP 2. |
STEP 3. |

Take off rims.

Remove nut with the tools shown below.

22mm socket cut for adjustable wrench.

7mm Allen key socket.

STEP 4. |

Place Allen key inside to
hold strut. |

Undo :)

The result. |

STEP 7. |

Remove the 10mm bolt that
holds the brake line to the strut. |

Remove the two 19mm bolts
and nuts from spindle (careful to not drop the
strut on the CV boot) as shown below.

If you have stock
springs you should use spring compression tools
like these for the next step (lowering springs
do not require them). |

REMOVING THE SPRINGS -

STEP 9. |

Use a 13/16th spark
plug socket to remove nut that holds on the
strut mount and bearing. |

Here I used vice-grips to hold the strut rod
from spinning.
You can use a 7mm long Allen wrench down the
middle of the socket (I just didn't have one).
This method should be a last resort. What
you end up with below.

STEP 10 - INSTALL NEW
STRUTS AND SPRINGS. |

Brand new KYB GT-2 strut
$60 bucks each.
Reassembly is the reverse. If you are
installing lowering springs make sure when you
let the car down to line up the springs with the
spring seats.
