THE QUESTION IS WHY? STEP 1.
Some say this is kind of pointless and maybe so, but I'm bored and had these steelies sitting in my closest.

Anyway...  I know there's probably a few people who have no clue how to polish their steelies. Or polish anything for that matter.

VW TECH BY: Louie

Start out washing and removing any crud off of the wheels, mainly around the outer lip of them since that's what you'll be focusing on.

STEP 2. STEP 3.

Start sanding with a low numbered grit sandpaper/sand block or sanding tool of whatever type you prefer. I started out with a 80grit sanding block to remove the black coating on them.

Continue sanding all the way around until your fore arm hurts :)

STEP 4. STEP 5.

Use the finer grit to remove even more the black coating, for me I don't want a mirror finish cause this is just for fun but you get the point.

At this point you can decide if you want to respray the middle black area with a flat (or glossy) black or whatever color you choose. I recommend doing the middle before coating the outer edge cause if you over spray or mess up you can always sand the lip as opposed to the middle...

After doing this you'll need to coat the newly exposed metal with some sort of clear coat, ill be using one of the "touch-up" cans that you can find at any auto parts store for around $2.

The trick to getting tires mounted without messing up your newly sprayed work is finding a shop that has the tire mounting tools that work with alloy wheels, that way it wont gouge out the metal and expose it to water/salty roads thus creating rust.

THE FINAL PRODUCT.
