Offer the brace up to the car and check for
fit. As the brace bar is designed to fit very
snugly on the strut housing, you should check
that it does not get hung up on the sealing
goo round the welds. |

Get someone to hold the bar steady while you
use a sharp centre punch to mark precisely the
mounting points. Be sure to do this accurately
because once you drill a hole, there's no
turning back! |

Check the instructions which come with the bar
to see what size hole you need to drill. Drill
a smaller pilot hole first of all and then
open it out to the correct size which, in this
case was 3/8 inch. |

On the nearside, you must take extreme care
not to damage the wiring loom with the drill
chuck while drilling the hole. It's to easy to
wear through the insulation without even
knowing you've done it. |

This is one of the little inserts which
Neuspeed supplies with its strut braces. It's
only designed to take forces in shear, not
tension, so it doesn't need to be particularly
beefy. |

The kit comes complete with instructions on
how to install the inserts, along with a
special little tool to compress them so they
remain in place. Follow the guide carefully
and make sure you fit the insert the correct
way. |

The installation tool is slipped over he
insert and held in place with a longer bolt.
It's a good idea to touch some paint round the
hole drilled in the strut tower to prevent
corrosion setting in. |

Install the insert and then hold the tool
steady with an open-ended wrench while you
tighten the bolt. This draws the lower part of
the insert up, crushing it tight against the
body. Once fitted, the insert will not come
out. |

Offer the brace up to the car and hopefully,
you should find the mountings all line up. If
not then it's time to buy another body shell.
Tighten the mounting bolts up to about 12ft lb
torque. |

Job done! Engine access is unhindered. Note
how the bar doglegs its way round the header
tank and over the top of the injection system.
Neuspeed brace is nicely finished in black
powder-coat. |
