As if - The Mk1 Golf GTI is enough entertainment in it's own right !

Hope to do a 1.8t 20v transplant at some point in the future, or possibly a four wheel drive syncro conversion.

I bought the car in 1993 as a standard "Driver" model. The car was actually in quite good condition with no rust, the only visible battle scar was some slight damage to the front panel where it had obviously had an altercation with something solid! The car was used every day to get me back and forth to college with modifications being made when cheap parts became available (thanks to a mate, Andy, who has his own garage - Volkswagen specialist!). These mods eventually amounted to: black and grey striped GTI interior (Mk2 Golf front & Scirocco split/fold rear) GTI mirrors, A-pillar deflectors and front spoiler partially lightened and balanced 1500cc motor Twin 40 Webber carbs four-branch manifold with Janspeed rear silencer GTI brakes "Modified" (read "cut") GTI springs and dampers. After about 18 months of the above spec, the 1500cc engine was removed and replaced with an 1800cc GTI lump, when a complete, front end damaged donor car was offered to me for a mere £100 (Cheers Andy!). The engine and complete fuel system (injection, fuel lines, fuel tank and fuel pump) were all changed bringing the car up to virtually GTI spec. Approximately two years later (Around May 2000) the car was taken off the road, initially to be sold though there was no interest... and so the re-build began...
